Pulitzer-winning trumpeter and Jazz at Lincoln Center artistic director Wynton Marsalis has called Marcus Roberts "the genius of the modern piano," and there's no question that he's one of the greatest jazz pianists and composers working today. Since his Jazz at Lincoln Center debut in 1987, Roberts' deeply significant recorded and commissioned works have honored some of his most revered predecessors of the piano. Roberts has a long history of treasuring the tenets of jazz through his work, which, for the last quarter century, has epitomized preservation through innovation. Joining him for this musical exploration of the Piano Masters of Melody is his new ensemble The Modern Jazz Generation, a large ensemble that features nearly a dozen top musicians spanning three generations, including bassists Thaddeus Expose and Raviv Markovitz, drummer Jason Marsalis and sax man Ricardo Pascale. Marilyn Maye was great tonight, singing a lot of Broadway songs I had never heard her sing in an act in the last several years...She was also having a LOT of Fun. THERE'S NO ONE LIKE HER! In the audience tonight the great Lana Cantrell! Don't miss this enggement! There is no one like her and her take on songs you think you know is fresh and wonderful. She ended with Losing My Mind which she played in a big theater and then of course Carlotta's song which she did in San Diego and at Carnegie Hall in Sondheim's Birthday...I'm Still Here! And she is and long may she wave! She sang songs from Cabaret, Promises Promises, My Fair Lady, many Guys and Dolls songs, Sherry (her James Lipton tale is a riot!), and entire How Now Dow Jones Lincoln Mercury jingle! She did a lot of the male songs from the musicals and her only non Broadway song was a wonderful rendition of "I'm Thru With Love." The lady has no peer, she is above and beyond every other singer in the world and it's amazing that she hasn't changed keys and her power is as strong as ever. She did the title songs from Mame and Hello Dolly, personalizing that song for the friends in the sold out house! And she sang "Elegance" with special lyrics and "If He Walked Into My Life"! Don't miss her!

Marilyn is the single greatest bang for your entertainment dollar in NYC (or wherever else you happen to find her)! A great singer, consummate entertainer, and warm and funny person. NOBODY does it like this.
Quite simply, the best.
