i really liked the event itself, but goldstar didn't give enough of a warning about the 2-drink minimum at the theater. i've decided to buy tickets before, even though there was a minimum, because i was mentally prepared. i felt duped when i arrived at the venue this time and was told i had to spend $13 more dollars (for 2 glasses of juice).

More Details About This Event:

Mel & El: This Show Rhymes, fresh from sold out performances at The Laurie Beechman in midtown, reopens downtown at The Duplex.

Created and performed by funny femmes Melanie Adelman and Ellie Dvorkin, with music by Patrick Spencer Bodd, Evan Toth, Noah Diamond and Amanda Sisk, Mel & El: This Show Rhymes is a 75 minute musical tour-de-force featuring in-your-crotch comedy coupled with songs that are witty (Roommates), heartfelt (The Heartfelt Song), and irreverent (Nice Jewish Boys).

An original two-woman show with universal themes, Mel & El: This Show Rhymes has been described as a musical Kathy & Mo meets Sex & the City. The show is intended for audiences of legal drinking age ready to spend the evening with a couple of loose-lipped ladies who aren’t afraid to be naughty. Mel and El – with production support from the nonprofit organization Cannery Works (Spencer Chandler, Artistic Director) – began developing Mel & El: This Show Rhymes just last year, but the collaboration actually started eighteen years ago. “Mel and El first became friends while attending a performing arts summer camp when they were kids,” says Chandler. “It’s amazing to watch them together now as women, because there are still glimmers of that pre-teen silliness peeking through.”
