One Night With Janis Joplin: 4th of July Fireworks & BBQ

Full Price:
$108.00
Our Price:
$100.00

One Night With Janis Joplin adds some actual Fourth of July fireworks to the musical ones produced on stage, with a post-show barbeque buffet on the Arena Stage terrace -- a prime viewing spot for the famed pyrotechnics launched on the National Mall. First up is the show, a part-concert, part-theatrical event that captures Janis Joplin's life and legacy in all its live intensity. Mary Bridget Davies stars as the rock legend in a performance that has audiences dancing in the aisles and critics raving. Featuring powerful musical numbers including "Piece of My Heart, "Summertime" and "Mercedes Benz," as well as one song Joplin never formally recorded, One Night boasts a full band and a cast including Sabrina Elayne Carten, who plays Bessie Smith, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. After the performance, you'll move outside the theater for food and drinks, along with the fireworks viewing. Please see the full event description for the buffet menu. Learn More

Best to take the train or a cab to port.

It's frequently more windy on the water than on shore; a light jacket is always a good idea.

Champagne is flowing but for those who like to indulge bar service is available.

This was an excellent 2-hr. trip with a very close view of the Statue of Liberty and a great cruise around the Manhattan. The trip included a wonderful brunch with champagne and music. Every mom received a long stem rose. The dining areas were air conditioned, but after lunch, we sat up on the top deck to enjoy the sun and the views. I thought this was an excellent value.

This was my first expierence with the Mothers Day Brunch Cruise and I found it to be quiet enjoyable. I would certainly consider it for next year. I would only recommend a bit more variety of food choices.

So far the best venue I have attended. Last year the wind and temps were bordering on inclement, but after a slight delay in arriving...a pleasure to behold. Worth every penny MOM was enchanted. I hesitated this year and attempted to wait to purchase...needless to say I will not be able to review this years event. Mom said "there's always next year!"

The Mother's Day brunch cruise was a nice Mother's Day surprise for my wife. The boat arrived about half an hour late, forcing us to wait with our small children in the cold (and for a considerable line to form) before we could board, so the event started off on a sour note. However, the delay was due to wind, which I understand is beyond their control.

The food was good, but not very good, and sufficient but not plentiful. As one would expect in a brunch cruise, the meal included both breakfast items (eggs, sausage, french toast) and lunch items (prime rib, etc.) but the buffet fit into two standard tables. Alcoholic drinks were additional, and required a trip to the bar. A small selection of breakfast pastries was available while the staff continued to set up the main course, and a plate of desserts was brought around at the conclusion of the meal.

The real trouble was a lack of coordination in much of the cruise. Initially, they tried to seat the children apart from my wife and me, and once they had found us seats together we found that the numbering of the tables was unclear. No one pointed out the breakfast pastries or told us when we could approach the buffet. I believed we would be given a complementary mimosa, but that never occurred. It felt very much like the crew hadn't done this kind of thing before.

Nonetheless, the crew was very friendly, and the ship handled well. The New York skyline is always a sure-fire backdrop for a great celebration, and we had a good time. I don't imagine I'll return - there are charters available for not too much more - but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for those who haven't spent the morning out on the water or who are budget conscious.
