When a trio of African-American sisters, their mom and their white sister-in-law arrive for the funeral of the family matriarch, they begin to unearth mementos that lead them to look back at their own relationships as well as the history of black women, as told through the hit songs of each era. Dorothy Marcic's musical takes you through the struggles of the '30s and the girl group sounds of the '60s, right up to the power decade of the '90s with songs ranging from Billie Holiday to Beyonce, including ""Oh, Happy Day," "Mama Said," "I Will Survive" and "A Woman's Worth." Dear cherished loved one,
Andrew and I are getting married. I know, I know – my parents were a bit shocked too, but they’re (almost) over that now. And they’re going to be involved every step of the way, which should make things really, um…interesting? My loud, opinionated mother, God bless her, always makes things a bit crazier than normal; Andrew’s weasel of an ex-boyfriend keeps us on our feet; and tons of crazy relatives on the side will make this the funniest musical comedy extravaganza you’ve ever seen! Please help me survive my wedding! It promises to be something neither of us will ever forget.
The event is presented by Dina Manzo, star of Bravo's The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
