Stage Left Studio presents Be Careful! The Sharks Will Eat You!, bi-coastal stage actor Jay Alvarez's gripping solo show. This Best of Fringe winner at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and Best Solo Performance winner at the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival tells the story of the Alvarez family's escape from 1960s Cuba. Written and performed by Alvarez under the direction of Theresa Gambacorta, the comic yet touching story portrays the sultry beats of the Tropicana of the 1950s, the danger during Fulgencio Batista's fall and Fidel Castro's rise to power, the plight of children separated from their parents during the revolution, and the longing for a better life that propelled many Cubans to throw themselves, under the cover of moonless nights, into unknown and dangerous waters. This acclaimed show is equal parts family memoir and historical account of life in pre-revolutionary Cuba. Learn More

Quotes & Highlights
“Collins is a writer and actor of enormous intelligence, range, and sensitivity. His ability to crystallize much of what’s ailing the American psyche just now is both uncanny and invaluable.” —Martin Denton, NYTheatre.com
“_Tim Collins’ intense, whirlwind tour of how they degrade human consciousness to the point where what we have been brought up to regard as sanity, even humanity, is not only out of our reach, but irrelevant, is a work of genius and shows, more than any other solo theater piece I have seen, just what the medium can achieve. This is the future of solo theater.” -Michael Miller, New York Arts
“Devilishly skewering.” -Boston Globe _
“Extraordinary …Tim Collins’ solo show is truly artful and even Shavian. …he presents multiple sides to the many issues he raises.” –Intermission Magazine
