Rent, the Pulitzer Prize-Winning Rock Musical Returns to NYC
New World Stages - Stage 1 (340 West 50th Street New York, NY 10019)
Rent, set in the East Village, returns to its New York roots where it had a groundbreaking 12-year Broadway run. Jonathan Larson's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical uses dance, pop, rock 'n' roll, R&B and salsa to tell an emotional tale about a community of young New York artists who celebrate life while struggling to make it in the city. Based on Puccini's La Boheme, the characters in Rent deal with the classic themes of love and loss while facing modern problems like homelessness and the AIDS epidemic. The timeless story comes to vivid life through the modern rock score, including such favorites as "La Vie Boheme," "What You Own," and "Seasons of Love."

Show is great -- toned down for the off-broadway stage, but still the music that you probably know and love. The Goldstar mezzanine seats are good, and we moved down b/c no one was in the first two rows of the mezz at all. Super fun night out -- especially at the Goldstar price!Written on Sep 20 2011

Thsi was my first "off broadway" play so in comparison to broadway, singing was good but it was all singing and the acoustics were not the greatest. it was a little difficult to follow becuase of this. However it was entertaining. this play is NOT for anyone who is prudish or homophobic.Written on May 22 2012

Some of te performers had great difficulties with their songs. Maureen's voice did not hit the high notes. Several understudies. Great staging in a very small space.Written on May 21 2012
