Overall, I thought the first 2/3's of the day were very very good and the best speaker was the one from Danny Meyer's USHG. I can't wait to get that one from TED online. The last few speakers were odd, inappopropriate and not very well prepared.

I am not involved in the Broadway community, nor do I live in New York. I attended this Tedx mostly because of a love for Broadway and a curiousity to see what changes might lie in store for it.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize.
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission: “Ideas Worth Spreading.” The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.

Damian Bazadona founded Situation Interactive (formerly, Situation Marketing) in 2001 and oversees the strategic direction for the company which maintains offices in New York and Los Angeles. Situation has managed the online marketing strategy for more than 200 live event productions and currently represents many theatrical brands across the country including Disney, Wicked_, Mamma Mia!_, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, along with many others.
Prior to forming Situation Interactive, Damian was partner and chief marketing officer of Cyber-NY Interactive where he was responsible for new business development and strategic initiatives for the firm. His work was instrumental in leading the firm to a 600 percent increase in sales, acquisition of Fortune 1000 clients, and inclusion in Ernst & Young and MIT’s Internet 500. He is an active contributor and source for leading Internet and business publications including The New York Times_, Variety_, Associated Press, Fortune Small Business and many more. In addition, he has served as a speaker and source for university research studies relating to online marketing for Yale University, New York University, Brooklyn College and Fordham University’s graduate level programs. Damian holds a B.S., Business Administration from University at Albany.
Ken Davenport is a Broadway producer whose credits include Godspell, Chinglish, Oleanna starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles, Speed-the-Plow_, Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America, Blithe Spirit_ starring Angela Lansbury, and_13_, as well as Altar Boyz, My First Time, The Awesome 80s Prom, and Miss Abigail’s Guide to Dating, Mating, & Marriage Off-Broadway. He also recently released These Magnificent Miles: On the Long Road with Red Wanting Blue, a documentary on one of the top unsigned rock bands in the country.
Ken was featured on a national commercial for Apple’s iPhone and named one of Crain’s “40 Under Forty.” Combined, Ken’s productions have grossed more than $100 million worldwide and are being produced internationally in more than 25 countries including Germany, Mexico, France and Korea. He created and developed the Broadway board game Be A Broadway Star, recently seen on The Today Show_, and a smartphone app called At The Booth, which gives a listing of available shows at the famed TKTS® booth in Times Square. At The Booth has been featured on _Entertainment Weekly’s “Must List” and called “Ingenious! The best thing to happen to New York theater since, well, the introduction of the TKTS® booth!” He also runs a number of theatrical websites, including BroadwaySpace.com Broadway’s no. 1 social networking site, DidHeLikeIt.com, and YourBroadwayGenius.com
Current projects include bringing the first ever revival of A Few Good Men_ to Broadway and adapting the novel and film Somewhere in Timeinto_ into a Broadway musical. His blog, TheProducersPerspective.com, has been featured in Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, The Gothamist and more. He has written articles for Forbes, Mashable, Imedia and others.*
Jim McCarthy is the CEO of Goldstar, the world’s largest seller of half-price tickets online. He focuses on business development through strategic marketing for Goldstar. Before launching Goldstar in February 2002, Jim was Vice President of Marketing for venture-backed Kiko, Inc., and previous to that developed highly successful sales products for GeoCities until its acquisition by Yahoo! in 1999. Jim is a graduate of the Anderson School of Business at UCLA and Harvard University. Jim has penned articles on e-commerce and niche marketing for such publications as Fast Company, Business Insider, E-Commerce Times, has been a featured lecturer at such conferences as InTix and Drilling Down on Local. He has been an active participant at the annual TED conference since 2008 and one of the organizers of TEDxBroadway. He also serves as Chief Editor for Live 2.0, an online initiative to build understanding and awareness of the rising prominence of the Live Entertainment segment of the entertainment economy.
