Mostly Mozart's eclectic summer music celebration returns to Lincoln Center for a series of exciting concerts showcasing works by Berlioz, Beethoven, Haydn and, of course, Mozart, with performances by some of the world's leading musicians and conductors. The first weekend of concerts celebrates Berlioz's masterpiece Symphonie fantastique, a phantasmagorical adventure written to impress an Irish actress who'd later become his wife. Next is Beethoven's final piano concerto, the Emperor, widely considered among the composer's crowning achievements -- a thrilling work composed between 1809 and 1811 in Vienna and dedicated to Beethoven's close friend and pupil, Archduke Rudolf of Austria. Finally, the works of Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Beethoven will be performed by young piano prodigy Yuja Wang, who's rocketed to the top of the classical music world with her charismatic stage presence and astounding technical prowess, under the baton of celebrated Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä.
