Cirque du Soleil comes to Prudential Center with Alegría, a fascinating look at power and the handing down of power over time, from ancient monarchies to modern democracies. Deriving its title from the Spanish word for jubilation, the show features kings' fools, minstrels, beggars, old aristocrats, children and clowns performing the amazing feats Cirque du Soleil is known for -- aerial high bar, synchronized trapeze, contortion, fire-knife dance and more.

It was nice, but not the best Cirque du Soleil show I've seen. The venue was definitely too big to feel the impact of the performances. But for the price the seats were great.

ambiance was terrible, production looks shoddy, the different sets did not flow properly, wasted too much time on the "comedic" acts, wasted even more time on the "fillers", nothing impressive with the feats at all.

i've been to wintuk, varykai, mystere, kooza all better much better

The show was great for a touring show set up to only do five days of performances. The only downside was the venue as it had a very strict policy that I wasn't aware of beforehand: no bottled water, and no cameras (I was directed to a run down parking lot where I paid $10 hoping they won't lose my $1200 camera!).

I had a blast! I've been to others and I brought my 13 and 9 yr old daughters to this one and we had a ball. The clowns weren't too scary, the singing was great and it wasn't too long. I would suggest getting floor seats for the participation aspect but these seats were fine too.

Great seats, on the 1st level just as promised and had a great view of the stage. We were seated about almost halfway between directly in front of the stage and the side with a little bit more towards the center. Would def buy again.

Awesome choreography, costumes and music. Very "dreamlike" quality to the show. The clowning scenes were very endearing as well.

Somewhat disappointing if you’re used to seeing the Cirque du Soleil under the Grand Chapiteau (different ambiance, shorter show, too much daylight peaking through), but still a great performance from amazing artists!
You’re better off taking the train from Penn Station in NYC than driving to any event at the Prudential Center, NJ as the parking lot is charging $30!!!

I have only been to Saltimbanco before this and I was disappointed with Alegria. It was not as organized and the music was okay. The acts were not as intriguing as I've seen before. It was entertaining, but not as much as Saltimbanco was. I wouldn't recommend it unless they add more to it. It was very somber and dreary.

Not quite as good as when I saw it the first time. The circus is better in the smaller venues, (tents). However, it was still worth the price of admission and all of Cirque du Soleil's shows are worth seeing.

This event was great. The seats weren't super close but you don't have to be right up front to appreciate Alegria; most of the acts are very BIG and don't require a bird's eye view.

Somebody wrote poorly of the comedic acts, which my girlfriend didn't love but I thought they were hilarious! Great entertainment for the money. Would definitely go again.

Very disappointing. The venue was much too large and prevented me from experiencing the full impact of the performances. Seemed a bit disorganized and rushed.

I liked it but I wish there would have been more acrobatics and less of the clowns. The clowns were funny but I thought their acts were just a bit too long. The music was great! I was pleasantly surprised that they had a wonderful soprano singing throughtout the show.

The acts were fine, but didn't have the degree of electric, daredevil energy I was expecting. Portions of the show, like the smoke and snow effect at the end of the first part, just seemed out of context and didn't seem to relate to anything else. The music was good, but the sound quality was muffled and it was hard to understand the comic portions and singing. I think it would also have fared better in a more intimate setting.

I was thoroughly unimpressed with this show. Some of the acts mentioned on the Cirque du Soliel website were absent from the performance that I attended. The volume of the sound was high enough to hear but it was difficult to understand anything spoken or sung. The bits with the clowns seemed to last forever. The finale ("snow") before intermission had no "magic" from my seat as I could clearly see everything going on behind the fabric wall including the smoke maker and the snow machine before either one was started.

i thought it was beautifully done, as always. i did find the venue a bit big and impersonal for this type of show. i've seen them in much smaller venues and find that more enjoyable.

It wasn't bad but definitely not the best Cirque du Soleil show I've seen.

very lousy, the setting was horrible, and the show was changed compared to the original, like 30% less of acts than it used to have. Rent or buy the DVD and you'll enjoy more! Prudential Center was not the best venue for this, there were too many external lights on during the show.

    More Information

Alegría is a mood, a state of mind. The themes of the show, whose name means "jubilation" in Spanish, are many. Power and the handing down of power over time, the evolution from ancient monarchies to modern democracies, old age, youth—it is against this backdrop that the characters of Alegría play out their lives. Kings' fools, minstrels, beggars, old aristocrats and children make up its universe, along with the clowns, who alone are able to resist the passing of time and the social transformations that accompany it.
