Showcasing Cole Porter's signature wit and masterful composition, Roundabout Theatre Company's Tony-winning production of Anything Goes features beloved songs such as "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "You're the Top." This timeless tale of boy-meets-girl and the resulting roller coaster ride centers on Billy Crocker, who falls hopelessly in love with a wealthy heiress. When he sees her boarding a boat to London, he throws caution to the wind and becomes a stowaway. Madcap hijinks ensue when his fellow passengers, including the evangelist-turned-nightclub-singer Reno Sweeney and second-rate gangster Moonface Martin, decide to help Billy win his true love. view more less of this reviewThis was hysterical. Writing is crisp and acting was very good. It helps if you know some yiddish but they do give you a translation in the program.
star this review starred report as inappropriateJewtopia was a lot of fun. It lived up to the reviews of a well acted comedy.
star this review starred report as inappropriateA play about Jewish culture as seen from the eyes of two men on the dating scene. The theater is small and intimate. The acting was good overall, but found the character actors were outstanding. The content of the play was a little cliched. Was not "wowed" by the play, but was fun to watch.
More Information About Jewtopia
Description
Jewtopia, written by Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson, is a comedy where stereotypes collide, cultures clash and chaos ensues! The production, sponsored by Geotechnologies Inc., and directed by REP newcomer Marlowe Weisman, is the longest running comedy ever to come out of Los Angeles.
Jewtopia tells the story of two 30 year old single men, Chris O’Connell and Adam Lipschitz. Chris, a gentile, wants to marry a Jewish girl so he’ll never have to make another decision. Adam Lipschitz, a Jew, wants to marry a Jewish girl to please his family, but can’t get a date to save his life. After meeting at a Jewish singles mixer, Adam and Chris form a secret pact. Chris promises that he will help Adam find the Jewish girl of his dreams and show him “Jewtopia”, but only if Adam will help Chris shed his gentile-ness and bring him undercover into the Jewish world.
“We have been waiting for two years to do this show. And trust me, it’s laugh out loud funny. This is one comedy you don’t want to miss”, exclaims REP Co-Artistic Director, Ovington Michael Owston.
