Repertory East Playhouse presents Christopher Sergel's stage adaptation of Harper Lee's classic 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Depression-era lawyer Atticus Finch struggles against racial prejudice in the rural South as he tries to exonerate a black man falsely accused of rape. Much of the story derives from the perspective of Finch's children, Jem and Scout, who witness the moral and societal issues that plague their town. This timeless tale of the innocence of childhood and the shock of growing up provides a poignant look at justice and the human spirit, as told through the eyes of a young girl learning the mysteries and realities of adulthood. To Kill a Mockingbird remains a stirring portrayal of both racial and family relations of its time that continues to resonate today. Learn More

The set was great. They sure know how to use the small space they have there. The cast was mostly good. The guy playing Barrymore was great!

Good show. Watson and Sherlock were excellent, and the supporting cast wasn't bad. The villain was especially fun to watch. The theater was small, but nice; we were in the back row and still had no trouble seeing or hearing the action.

The show was good, but not great. It was a little bit too melodramatic for our taste. However, the acting was very good, the set was very well done, and it is always a pleasure to go to a small local theatre.

More Information About Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles

Description

The Repertory East Playhouse will return to its Main Stage Season with the chilling crime drama Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles, adapted by F. Andrew Leslie, from the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Perhaps the most famous and popular of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries this gripping tale deals with the curse of the Baskerville family -- and the fiendish killer-hound which stalks its members. As the action begins Sir Charles Baskerville has died under mysterious circumstances, and his nephew and heir, the young Sir Henry, has been threatened even before his arrival at Baskerville Hall. Enlisting the aid of Sherlock Holmes he sets out for his ancestral home on the Devon moor in the company of Dr. Watson, Holmes' trusted colleague, a journey which brings him to danger, mystery and a series of events which build steadily in menace and suspense. Hard pressed to protect his charge, and to fathom the strange mishaps which beset him, Dr. Watson is much relieved when Holmes himself appears—to trap the diabolical killer who stalks Sir Henry and to unravel the fascinating mystery which accounts for his evil actions.
