One of the most amazing sights in nature is that of majestic whales swimming and playing on the ocean's surface, leaping out of the water and slapping their mighty tales. On this 2.5 hour cruise off the shores of Newport Beach, you may see giant blue whales during the summer and fall months or the annual grey whale migration bringing tens of thousands of grey whales along the coast during the winter and spring months. Huge pods of several species of dolphin are very common as are the resident sea lions. You may also catch glimpses of seals, killer whales, sharks and many other marine creatures. With a 96% success rate, almost every cruise has many viewing opportunities. An added plus is picturesque coastal backdrops of Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Huntington Beach. Learn More

This was not as bad as we expected, given some of the reviews here. Our only real complaint was that the check-in spot was hard to find, as there are a number of these cruise companies along the dock. We found the one right next to the Ferris Wheel, as suggested by another review, but it had a sign that said "Back in 15 minutes," which of course was much longer. By the time the person came back, we were informed that we were staking out the wrong cruise company, and I literally had to run down to where we were supposed to be. When we got there, there was a very long line to check-in, something we had hoped to avoid by getting there an hour early. Oh, well; our mistake. Don't let it happen to you. Davey's Locker is down several buildings to the right in the Balboa Pavilion building (if you are facing the Ferris Wheel and the harbor). We boarded the boat right behind the building. Indeed, the metered parking was free after 6 p.m. and we found a spot on the street just outside of that little parking lot on the corner of Bay and Palm. But, we considered ourselves pretty lucky because we had already taken one trip through the full parking lot and didn't see any other open street parking. My recommendation is to just leave plenty of time to scope out a parking space and then do some sight-seeing if you have extra time. Anyway, once we were in the right place and checked-in, the rest of the experience was great! The boat was full, but we had no problem getting chips and salsa (and guacamole). We sat near the bar and never saw more than five people in line at it's peak before the boat set sail. I was expecting the drinks to be overpriced or to have some "all you can drink" scheme and then not be able to get them, but the drink and snack menu was posted on the wall and everything was very reasonable. My very generous pour of wine was only $4. Unfortunately, our sunset was a wash, as it was overcast, but there's no way to control this, so we didn't let that spoil things.
The sailing was all good and we enjoyed looking at the nice houses around the harbor and the people on the jetty. And once out in the ocean we headed right through a pod of dolphins! It was so exciting. All of the patrons on our boat were well-behaved and we met some nice people at our table. The staff and crew were also all very nice and made the experience fun for us with their enthusiasm. I must make a special note about the guitar player. We thought he was fantastic. He plays flamenco-style music, which is perfect for this type of cruise. Not too noisy and not too dull. We talked to him afterwards and he's the real deal. All said and done, we will definitely do this cruise again; we had a lot of fun.
Although weather is usually mild, be prepared and dress warmly.
The sunset and twilight cruise is one of Newport's most popular cruises. Passengers will cruise Newport Bay and along the fabulous Newport Beach coastline on this 1½ hour cruise to the backdrop of live music. The Cruise Newport Beach Sunset cruise travels through the world-renowned Newport Bay with over 20 miles of gorgeous waterfront estates and multi-million dollar yachts. Newport Bay is the largest recreational bay on the West Coast as well as the largest natural bay.
During each cruise, hundreds of yachts, sailing ships, and cruise ships navigate the harbor and create a festive boating experience. Live music from waterfront restaurants carries over the bay and instills the promise of an evening full of possibilities. While passengers snack on complementary fresh chips and salsa and debating whether to sample the famous Newport Bay margarita or an icy corona with a touch of lime, the cruise departs from Newport Bay and sails along the pristine Newport Beach coastline.
