More Details About This Event: Written and Performed by Jim Brochu
Directed by Piper Laurie The tumultuous life of the late actor Zero Mostel is the subject of this critically acclaimed one-man play. A three time Tony Award winning actor, this larger than life star of The Producers, Fiddler on the Roof, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Ionesco’s Rhinoceros was as famous for his politics as for his comic talents. In the 1950’s Mostel was caught up in the infamous McCarthy Hollywood blacklist which cost him ten years of his career. In his brilliant portrayal of this one-man tour-de-force, Brochu brings all of Mostel’s swagger; intelligence and wit back to the stage in a loving but unvarnished tribute as entertaining as the man himself. Jim Brochu wrote the award-winning musicals The Last Session (named by the LA Times as one of the ten best plays of the 1998-1999 Season) and The Big Voice: God or Merman? In addition to his theatrical work, Brochu’s acting credits include appearances on “All My Children”, “Mary Hartman”, “Cheers”, “Wings” and “Bram and Alice”. In 2001, Jim’s caricature was hung on the wall of Sardi’s Restaurant in New York – a singular tribute to a thirty-year career as an actor and playwright. Piper Laurie is a three time Academy Award nominee whose illustrious movie career has included such legendary roles as Paul Newman’s crippled girlfriend in The Hustler, Mrs. Norman in Children of a Lesser God and Sissy Spacek’s mother in Carrie. Ms Laurie has appeared in many outstanding television shows from The Best of Broadway, Playhouse 90 to ‘ER” and “Frasier”.
