Spanish Harlem Orchestra: Latin Jazz Group's Holiday Concert Salsa Navidad
Now in its 12th year, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra is one of the most formidable and authentic Latin jazz combos around, with a sound that draws heavily from tradition while consistently pushing toward the genre's vibrant future. Directed by world-renowned pianist, arranger and producer Oscar Hernández, the all-star ensemble has introduced the thrilling sounds of New York City salsa to music lovers worldwide. Now they bring their irresistible sound to the music of the holidays in a festive celebration featuring yuletide rumbas, cha-cha-chás, mambos and more. The group channels the vintage salsa sounds of El Barrio in the '60s and '70s with full-bodied big band style, suave and soaring vocals, and crisp new arrangements of holiday favorites.

Parking is NOT free for shows at the Levine School of Music, but is free for the Strathmore. Confusing and disappointing.Percussionists Manny Arciniega and Adam Green: Unknown Voices travel • May 08 2014 star this tip starred

Leave home early, even if you live close. At this time of year and time of evening, Rockville Pike and other roads are usually bumper-to-bumper, plus the line to get into the parking lot (from Rockville Pike onto Tuckerman Lane, (vs. where you enter for the Mansion, despite the posted road sign), is one lane, also bumper to bumper. Parking is free but another challenge still lies ahead with long waits for elevators in the parking garage, transversing the long, elevated corrider between the parking lot and the venue, and additional elevators with long lines inside the venue, which take you to the level of your assigned seats (there is an elevator operator checking tickets and telling individuals if they're on the correct elevator, etc.). If you're not familiar with this whole scenario, best to leave a trail of breadcrumbs from your parking space to your seat, assuming there are no birds in sight. : \A Candlelight Christmas travel • Dec 24 2013 star this tip starred
