I went with my daughter to see this play, it is a 4 male, 3 female actors production, the play was both funny and touching, also deliever a strong message about you should tell/show the people you love while you still can. There are eyes wiping from some of the viewers at the end.

I like the actors playing the role of the father and Carl (the 2nd son), I think they gave a much better performance than the rest of the actors.

It is an enjoyable two hours.

Thanks, Goldstar

Description

From the author of the smash hit musicals Don't Hug Me and A Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol and the award-winning play Crappie Talk
comes A Nice Family Gathering.

It’s the 4th of July and the first family gathering at the Lundeen household since Dad died. At the gathering, Dad comes back as a ghost with a mission: to tell his wife of 35 years that he loved her, something he neglected to tell her while he was alive. The problem is, she can’t hear or see him. The trouble begins when Mom invites a date for dinner.

A Nice Family Gathering has garnered awards at the Rochester Playwright Festival and was a finalist in The Robert J. Pickering Award for Playwriting Excellence, the Phoenix Theatre's Festival of Emerging American Theatre, the Ukiah Players New Comedy Festival as well as the Chesterfield Writer's Film Project. The screenplay was a finalist in the Chicago Film Festival Indiefest.

Phil Olson (playwright): A native of Edina, Minnesota, Phil Olson has ancestors who came over from Norway and homesteaded a farm north of Fargo, North Dakota. His mother's grandparents also came over from Norway and ended up in Virginia, Minnesota, the iron range. Upon graduating from Dartmouth, Phil tried out for the Chicago Bears. After his "summer with the Bears," he went on to receive an MBA from The University of Chicago and Angeles where he is a stockbroker during market hours and a writer after the closing bell. He's written three national award-winning plays: Don't Hug Me, A Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol, and Crappie Talk, a.k.a. Kold Radio, Whitefish Bay, all set in small towns in Minnesota. As a script doctor, he's re-written three movies that have been produced, as well as thirteen original screenplays. He also wrote for a television series that aired on Romania One Television, another that was picked up by E! Television, and was hired to write, "Hooters: The Movie," based on the delightfully tacky, yet unrefined restaurant chain. He also sold his screenplay, "Reform School Girls," a comedy spoof of prison movies.

Richard Alan Woody (director): In his 54 years in the professional theatre, Richard Alan Woody has participated in virtually every phase of the entertainment business. Principally a producer/director for the last 17 years, he has been a member of the Lonny Chapman Group Repertory Theatre for the past four years and also serves on the Board of Directors. He directed Milagro!, the L.A. premiere of Jeffrey Sweet's Bluff, Frances Mizrahi's Closets, and Gene Casey's Theatresongs, as well as three Christmas shows at LCGRT; the L.A. premiere of Yazmina Reza's Life x 3 at the Elephant Asylum; Fat Chance and Ready, Aim, You're Fired at the NoHo Actors' Studio; Flood Tide at Rio Magdalena, Sock It to the '60s, Appleseed, and More Crazy Tunes at the Centerstage in Woodland Hills; Bein' with Behan, an award-winning one man show, at the Jimson Theatre; Marcia Lewis, A Goodtime Girl in Concert at the Westwood Playhouse; and national tours of The Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Mikado, and Diamond Studs.
