Lee Blessing's A Walk in the Woods is the story of an unlikely friendship between an earnest young American nuclear arms negotiator and his more-cynical Soviet counterpart during their walks together in the hills above Geneva, Switzerland. This 1988 play was inspired by the true story of two passionate men who had the courage to forge a nuclear weapons agreement without the support of their governments.

Two marvelous performances. A very interesting view of how American and Soviet diplomats acted in the mid 80's

Written by Lee Blessing

A Walk in the Woods
is the story of two nations attempting to avert a nuclear holocaust in spite of the political and economic forces that seem to be pushing them relentlessly toward it.

During his 2010 State of the Union speech, President Obama noted that the United States and Russia had just signed their most extensive nuclear arms-reduction treaty in more than 20 years.  He was referencing the SALT II conferences that are the background for A Walk in the Woods.

The play received nominations for nominated for a Tony Award, the Pulitzer Prize and the Olivier Award.
