Mom's been dead for 11 months when she shows up at her husband's birthday party as a ghost on a mission in Phil Olson's world premiere comedy Mom's Gift. To earn her wings, she has to accomplish a task. But what that task is, she still has to figure out. Things get even funnier when it turns out that the only person who can hear or see Mom is her daughter, who has been ordered by the court to be with Dad on his birthday as part of her anger management program. Over the course of the night, the family's secrets slip out -- including one that surprises even the ghost herself. Learn More

A painful evening in the theatre. Only two cast members managed a passable version of the British accents required for their characters. I'm of the opinion that if you can't find actors who can do dialect, don't do a play that requires it. The majority of characterizations were hammy caricatures and the staging was stilted and akward, suggesting that the actors had had received very little in the way of directorial support. It felt very much like community theatre, which is all very well, but not when this theatre is charging prices comparable to those of professional Equity houses. I enjoyed "The Poor of New York", produced several months ago, but realize now that that play's melodrama was more conducive to this company's talents. I am extremely reticent to see upcoming productions here, even if I have friends in them. Unless I am comped and can bring a stiff drink.
