Ring in the New Year with the silk-and-diamond decadence of The Great Gatsby as Baz Lurhmann's best films spring to life during this spectacular New Year's Eve party. Begin your stylish evening with a three-course dinner, followed by a performance of the popular show For the Record: Baz Luhrmann, featuring powerhouse performers from music, stage and screen reenacting iconic scenes and songs from Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, Strictly Ballroom and The Great Gatsby. After the show, Rockwell will be transformed into a Gatsby-style 1920s retreat. Listen to live music while enjoying the delicious buffet and glass of champagne included in the ticket price. If you'd prefer to skip the seated dinner and show and commence straight to partying the night away, the VIP Party Only option takes place in Rockwell's dazzling second-floor VIP salon, decorated Gatsby-style, where you can enjoy the buffet, a champagne toast, a balloon drop and live music. This gets only two stars because we were not informed that the 9 PM show was preceded by an opening act that was just okay. Nice guys, but not fitting for Saturday night in a theater quality.
Branch didn't go on until well after 10:30 and even then, his band did maybe a 10 minute intro before he came out. Billy is an excellent harp player, but the overall vibe was nearly a memorial for the blues. That stemmed from the announcer noting how few people were in the audience and how back in Chicago in the good old days, it would have been sold out. It really felt that way to me and I'm not only a blues fan, but a musician to boot. Last criticism is that while the theater is really cool, you gots to have liquor with the blues.
