Both thought-provoking and extremely funny, this very well acted play is a must see. Written with great punch lines as well as heart-felt drama, and without giving anything away - it has moments of great surprises! The direction is crisp, there's wonderful music and most of all - it's an important show with very timely issues. Top-notch!

Really smart and funny writing. The play grapples with a controversial subject but does so with a lot of humor and wit. Freedman's writing is reminiscent of Aaron Sorkin and I really enjoyed the production. Go see it!

Description

Blind Spots is a black comedy about a gay journalist who battles her homophobic sister... to the death.

Set in a small New England town, Blind Spots follows Gretchen as she attempts to expose injustices on the local college campus while juggling the needs of a passionate young lacrosse player, a completely batty mother and a sexually frustrated best friend. But the politics become personal when her reactionary sister Kate blackmails Gretchen in an attempt to quiet her poison pen, leading to a showdown in which dark family secrets are exposed.

Critics have described Colette Freedman's previous work as highly entertaining, meticulously carved, smart and witty rhetoric, moving and relevant. With similar themes and tone to her award-winning, internationally produced Sister Cities, Freedman once again brings her signature wit to a complex and pressing issue in this world premiere dark comedy, allowing an audience to find humor amid tragedy.

Blind Spots includes a cast of five women and offers a poignant and funny look at the dysfunction that feeds family relationships.
Colette is an internationally produced writer, director and actress who was voted One of 50 to Watch by The Dramatist’s Guild. She has won over 60 awards for her commercial writing and directing, including the International Summit Award, Telly, and Communicator Awards. She also attended Colgate University, where she earned a Masters Degree in Teaching with an emphasis on Drama and Literature.

She is the author of over fifteen plays including Serial Killer Barbie (Brooklyn Publishers), Sister Cities (NYTE Press) and the novel Tennis Dates (Outskirts Press). Colette’s play Sister Cities was the hit of the Edinburgh Fringe and earned five star reviews:  It has been produced around the country and is gearing up for productions in Paris (Une Ville, Une Soeur) and Rome (Le Quattro Sorelle). The film version has been optioned. She also won First Place winner in creative writing at the Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference.

Colette was commissioned to adapt the best selling Irish book The Affair, the world premiere Felix and Fanny for The Mendelssohn Project  and has just written the book outline for the Styx musical Renegade. A member of the Dramatist’s Guild, she has several film and television projects currently under option and in development and has just finished a play with best selling novelist Jackie Collins and has just sold a book series to a major New York publisher.
