Group Rep at the Lonny Chapman Theatre (North Hollywood, CA)
Boston Marriage is filled with David Mamet's familiar fascination with complex games and language, and his brilliantly terse and crisply paced dialogue. Set in the Victorian era, the play chronicles the relationship between two "single" women who live together without male presence, who are dependent on each other for support, emotional and otherwise: a Boston marriage.

I was surprised to find a period drama from Mamet. Good acting, costumes and set were terrific.

I saw this play in SF a few years ago & left unimpressed. Group Rep's staging & performance, however, was exceptionally memorable. The humor, evocative of Oscar Wilde's comedies, was droll, precise & unpretentious. If you like Mamet, or if you just like great theater go see this production!

Saw the last performance before it closed but what the heck, I'll write this review anyway. It was a great piece of theatre. Well paced. Well acted. Well executed all around. Lia Sargent was especially good but all the actors were on the game. If they do this one anywhere else, it's worth it to see.

This is a comedy of clever refinement full of the awareness of the socio-political realities of a woman’s place in that earlier time.
