Sex, Drugs and Clowns Make Up the Dark Comedy That Good Night

A darkly comedic look at what it means to be cast adrift at any age, That Good Night explores the complex family dynamic of the O'Dwyer children, who have all reconvened to say goodbye to their dying father. Among them is their 37-year-old brother, who still lives at home and works as a part-time clown while dabbling in magic, film and heroin. As the children struggle with their own identities, marriages and fatherhood, their sister reveals she has written a story that threatens to expose family secrets thought long forgotten. That Good Night explores the means we have of holding on to each other and to those lost souls who appear in the night, using black humor to create an engrossing, enlightening production. Learn More

A rather mediocre take on a strained father and son relationship. It never felt like there was any hope for these two so it was hard to get interested in the story. The set was beautiful!Written on Mar 08 2012

I enjoyed the show, and it's worth attending. The set and staging is great. And the man that plays the father is wonderful. (He actually TALKS, just talks and lives in the moment. Not "actor-y" forced stuff, which makes my skin crawl. It was refreshing to see.) This is a very "slice of life" play. It's a moment in time. Yes, there's drama, but the script is not life changing. It's kind of like an afternoon with a dysfunctional father/son duo. I HATED the end of the play (but that was all the playwright, nothing to do with the actors / show itself.) The show runs Wed and Thursday night, and this makes for good discount weekday theatre-ing. The lackluster ending of the script won't win any awards, but it's good "gay" theatre with a few important messages. Also, GREAT staff at the theatre company.Written on Feb 24 2012
