Her vocal talents makes Barbara Morrison perfect to portray "Big Mama" Thornton. The rest of the cast was great also. I hate that I did not have an opporutnity to see it again.

More Details About This Event:

Experience the best of the blues as the essence of the great legend Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton is re-created in all of her simple splendor.

Big Mama Thornton's work began in the 1940s and spanned over four decades, yet she never gained the notoriety nor the wealth that she truly deserved for her gallant effort. She was the first to introduce the song "Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog," also recorded by the late great Elvis Presley. In addition, she wrote and recorded "Ball and Chain," which was also recorded by Janis Joplin.

Blues and jazz recording artist Barbara Morrison, a legend in her own right and an exceptional vocal talent known throughout the U.S. and abroad, is mesmerizing as Big Mama Thornton.

The show was written and is produced by Theatre Perception Consortium, noted for their work as producers and writers of the award-winning 1940s jazz musical North on South Central Avenue.

Grammy-nominated artist Kevin O'Neal is the composer and musical director of this production. O'Neal was the bassist for the chart-topping, triple Grammy-winning album of the year by Outkast in 2004.
