In 1661, when only men played women on England's theater stages, Edward Kynaston reigned supreme as London's most celebrated leading lady. But when actress Margaret Hughes persuades King Charles II to allow actual females to take the stage, the king's own courtesan, Nell Gwynn, and Kynaston's former dresser, Maria, become stars while Kynaston's career may be cut short -- spurring him down a path of revenge and reinvention. Jeffrey Hatcher's hilarious, yet poignant play was also adapted into the film Stage Beauty with Billy Crudup and Claire Danes. Learn More

If you enjoy the #1-rated sitcoms “Everybody Loves Raymond” or “Two and a Half Men,” or the legendary film "Some Like It Hot," then you’ll likely enjoy “I’m Just Wild About Harry.”Written on Jul 21 2008
Unfortunately, I don’t, and I didn’t.
Set in the rigid social formality of the early 20th century, the cast does a good job of bringing high energy and good singing skills to this broad for-the-masses comedy fueled by mistaken identity and cross-dressing a la Benny Hill. Chris Shepardson (Harry) has an early Jim Carrey vibe. But as they say about Los Angeles, there’s no “there” there. The production is all frosting and no cake.
The perfunctory plot serves mainly as a vehicle to hang 21 classic Americana tunes like “Oh You Beautiful Doll” and obviously “I’m Just Wild About Harry.” Frustratingly, some great composers are included, but they use their dumbest songs. For example, Jerome Kern herein wrote “Look For the Silver Lining,” but the man also wrote “The Way You Look Tonight” and “Showboat,” fer gawds sake. His genius is ignored in favor of, well, something substantially less genius-y.
Musical accompaniment is serviceably provided by an upright piano. There’s neither miking nor P.A., nor need for any. Only three rows of seating, twenty across, provide everyone with immediate access to the performance, and the church setting allows for ample free parking.
One of my college professors once said we live in an artistic age where we need nuts in our Hershey bar. “Harry” is pure milk chocolate without any troublesome resistance, the sort of happy carefree play one would see at a theme park.
I guess it just wasn’t my thing, and I left at intermission.

Description
Some of you may remember songs like "Daisy Bell" (A Bicycle Built For Two) or "Aba Daba Honeymoon" but this show is packed with old favorites. You won't be disappointed. When Harry's Aunt decides to show up unexpectedly, the boys (Jack and Harry) invite their sweethearts over to meet the Aunt, but really to propose, since the girls’ father/guardian is out of town. But when the Aunt wires that she will not be coming the boys insist their music teacher (a man) dress up and pretend to be the Aunt. Hilarity ensues as the music teacher tries to avoid being discovered and of course, when the real Aunt arrives. Join in the music, fun and laughter for an unbelievable low price.
