Albie Selznick, a lifetime member of The Magic Castle and an accomplished actor whose credits include Dexter, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy, moves his popular show to North Hollywood. A Los Angeles Times Critics' Choice event, Smoke and Mirrors is an engaging mix of comedy, theater and magic that finds Selznick telling his own story of facing his deepest fears, bonding with legend Harry Houdini and achieving membership in an exclusive inner circle of magicians, weaving it with some truly astonishing illusions. Selznick was a co-founder of The Mums, a popular circus act in the '80s and '90s that opened for Devo and Duran Duran and counted David Bowie and Sting among their fans. A strolling magician will perform among the audience before the show. Learn More

A frantic phone call from Jan forces her brother Andrew to return home to small-town Dixon, Illinois--the boyhood home of Ronald Reagan--to deal with their ailing mother Mae, an irate "temporary" resident of a nursing home. As Jan struggles to leave town and reclaim her life, she and Mae attempt to navigate through their difficult relationship. Meanwhile, Andrew takes his lover on a guided tour through his childhood haunts, reliving the fear and sorrow that has impacted his life. This sometimes-comic "tour" includes a look inside the home of Jan's soon-to-be-ex-husband, whose best friend has unusual views on life, love, and when to call the vet. Balancing humor and pain, The End of the Tour is a portrait of people attempting to pull themselves up and out of the disappointment in their lives.
