Two iconic American rock groups will share the stage at the Fabulous Forum this summer as Cheap Trick joins Boston for their "Heaven on Earth" tour. Known for their killer pop hooks, Boston sold millions during the '70s and '80s with their catchy version of prog rock. Their self-titled debut was one of the fastest-selling pop debuts in history, spawning three hit singles that became American classics: "More Than a Feeling," "Long Time" and "Peace of Mind." At the same time, Cheap Trick was perfecting the delicate balance between power pop and hard rock that made them a major influence on future punk, metal and alternative bands. Songs like "I Want You to Want Me," "Surrender" and "Dream Police," along with their dynamic live performances, sealed their reputation as arena rock gods. Now, 40 years into their careers, the two bands are still going strong. The "Heaven on Earth" tour is traveling the country in support of Boston's sixth studio album release, Life, Love & Hope, and this is one of a select few appearances where Cheap Trick will be performing with them. For over three decades, Doc Severinsen & His Big Band ruled the late night television airwaves. His reign began in 1962, and he became an American household name in large part because of the performance of his stellar big band as creative trumpet playing and big band leader on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Although this beloved television program ended its run in 1992, Severinsen’s career continues non-stop. He tours annually, performing to fans who love and respect Doc and his big band sound. The repertoire oftentimes include Ellington and Basie standards, pop, jazz, ballads, big band classics and, of course, The Tonight Show theme.
The legendary Mary Wilson, best known as one of the key founding members of the world’s most famous female trio, The Supremes, joins Doc Severinsen and Big band offering renditions of classic songs. Two great American performers, together on stage, this is a perfect pairing.
