Affairs Afloat presents its popular Tropicana Fridays Cruise. A live DJ plays a hot mix of Top 40 and dance music hits to keep the crowd moving. It all happens during a three-hour cruise (but music starts a full hour earlier, at the dock) down the Hudson River and through New York's famous harbor, with spectacular views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. There's a cash bar and buffet, and an enclosed, climate-controlled dance floor provides the perfect space to get down, relax and unwind -- rain or (moon)shine. Learn More

The beginning of the event was definitely rocky. It was not what people had expected. A lot of people actually just left the boat. Most people figured that VIP meant we would have somewhere to sit. Actually, this is what many people were told when they called the number given for the ship. However, this was not the case. Only platinum members were given seats and tables. Many people were also unhappy that you could only go to the buffet once. A buffet implies that you can make multiple trips. Another problem was that the boat did not leave or board anywhere close to on time. People were very upset in the beginning; however, once the boat left port it was an amazing ride. The open bar was perfect. We got very close to the statue of liberty and ellis island. The sunset was amazing. The view of the fireworks was perfect and the boat circled so that everyone could see. The music played was a great mix and it did end up being a great event.Written on Jul 05 2011

horrible organization. tkts said 5:30 departure... they didn't have everyone boarded until 7pm! the night consisted of waiting in lines... waiting to get on the boat for almost 2 hours, then waiting in line for food, then in line for the bar.Written on Jul 05 2011
once the night got going and most people had eaten, the view for the fireworks was great, but i would never do this event again or recommend to anyone.
i live in NYC, and take advantage of offers such as these often; this was by far the worst cruise experience i've been on.

The published time that the boats would embark was well in advance of the actual time they embarked. This makes sense for those who have a problem being on time. But it meant long lines for the punctual folks. Seating was not guaranteed and the lack of seats was really the only major con of this cruise. I dont understand why the staff would not open the top deck for more room. To be fair, the music was very good. Dinner buffet was delicious. The view of fireworks was very good. And the overall length of the cruise was appropriate.Written on Jul 05 2011
