First Folio presents Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Driving Miss Daisy. This beloved story details the relationship between an elderly Southern Jewish matron and her African-American chauffeur over the span of several decades. In this delicate depiction of racial tensions and of growing old, Uhry has created two outsiders who come to a mutual respect based on their independence, strength and stubborn integrity.

After the Fall: Rarely Produced Classic by Arthur Miller from HumanArts Theater Company

Full Price:
$25.00
Our Price:
$12.50

Based on the playwright's life and considered one of Arthur Miller's most personal plays, After The Fall follows a man on his quest to make peace with his own history and with the tumultuous world around him. This experimental portrait of a man struggling with the choices he has made in his public and private life examines the personal, political and universal forces that collide when we "fall" from innocence. Following the death of his second wife, Quentin tries to move forward, but he must also relive childhood losses, failed marriages and the effects of the 1950s' Blacklist. This rarely produced classic is presented by the HumanArts Theater Company. Learn More

More Information About Driving Miss Daisy

Description

Originally produced by Playwright’s Horizons, Driving Miss Daisy also enjoyed a long run at Chicago’s Briar Street Theater before becoming an Academy Award Winning movie. The Daily News called Driving Miss Daisy “a miniature with a power far beyond its apparent size” and the Wall Street Journal said, “Its restraint and plain common sense seem a near miracle.” Richard Christiansen of the Chicago Tribune praised it as a “drama so expertly written … that one would have to have a heart of stone not to be touched by it.”

First Folio Artistic Director Alison C. Vesely will be at the helm of this production. Leading the cast will be Jill Shellabarger, as the acerbic Daisy Werthan, and D.J. Howard, as Hoke Colburn, Daisy’s easy-going chauffeur. Rounding out the cast will First Folio Artistic Associate David Rice, as Daisy’s son Boolie (a role he played opposite Charlotte Rae in the Briar Street Theater production).

Driving Miss Daisy will be presented in First Folio’s chamber theater, located in historic Mayslake Hall. A 30-room Tudor Revival style mansion, Mayslake Hall was originally built by coal baron Francis S. Peabody. Completed in 1922, the mansion is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is currently in the process of being fully restored.
