Based on the famed 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, which featured the law giants Williams Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow, this award-winning play focuses on a school science teacher who stands trial for teaching evolution and the subsequent courtroom clash between friends and rival attorneys. Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee, the play's original 1955 production was a reaction to that era's rampant McCarthyism, but over 60 years later, these very same issues continue to divide the country. Veteran Chicago actor and director, and former Next Theatre artistic director, Steve Pickering directs this towering 20th century classic.

Actors were very good. Sometimes hard to hear certain actors, especially the women who's voices didn't carry as well as the men. If they walked off the stage the microphones were not working properly. Otherwise, I loved the whole night.

Nice smaller setting and in the burbs and easy to get to.

What a great find! Theater in the park was delightful. A very professional production, especially considering that it's not a permanent set. Excellent acting. Comfortable to see and hear. We really enjoyed it!
