Hello, Dolly! tells the story of the vivacious Dolly Gallagher Levi, one of the iconic characters of the American musical theater canon. Dolly is a matchmaker who has been hired to arrange a marriage for the widowed half-millionaire Horace Vandergelder. Dolly, however, has secret plans for Vandergelder and herself. With a cast of delightful leading characters, beautiful turn-of-the-century costumes and a fabulous chorus, Hello, Dolly! is also brimming with joyful tunes, including the title song, "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" and "It Only Takes a Moment." It was well produced, but not well directed. Overall, the show seemed to miss the point. It was too clean and flashy...not gritty enough. Some great vocals on almost all the actors, and some really good performances here and there, but overall, just not really on target.
Set in the sexy, sultry Kit Kat Klub, before the Nazis rise to power in early 1930’s Berlin, Cabaret is a provocative tale of love and war. This mesmerizing show depicts the intertwined stories of an English cabaret singer, an American writer, a rich German politician, a Jewish fruit vendor and the denizens of Berlin who are caught in a tumultuous changing society.
