The pump boys sell high octane fuel on North Carolina's Highway 57 and the sassy dinettes, Prudie and Rhetta Cupp, run the Double Cupp diner next door. Glitzy venue worthy of Vegas. Very funny comedy, on a realistic topic. Lead actor, Bernie Yvon, was an understudy for Donny Osmond in 'Joseph ...Dreamcoat'. Lasts about 2 3/4 hours, including 1/4 hour intermission. Large cast.

I was a very enjoyable play.

THIS PLAY WAS VERY ENJOYABLE. THE ACTING WAS EXCELLENT AND THE SCRIPT INVOLVED A REAL LIFE SITUATION ALL OF US CAN RELATE TO. MY WIFE & I RECOMMEND THIS PLAY.
The modern romantic comedy, The Goodbye Girl is now running at Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace Theatre. The Goodbye Girl, with book by Neil Simon, music by Marvin Hamlisch (“A Chorus Line”), and lyrics by David Zippel (“City of Angels”) is based on the 1977 Oscar winning film of the same name that starred Marsha Mason and Richard Dreyfuss. The Goodbye Girl will be directed by Drury Lane Producer Gary Griffin (The Color Purple). Award winning scenic designer Brian Sydney Bembridge will be designing the set.
This musical turns the film comedy into an adventure about love and commitment. Single mother Paula (Susan Moniz), has to share her absent boyfriend’s New York apartment with Elliot (Bernie Yvon), an egotistical and opinionated struggling actor. They fall in love, which alarms her twelve year old daughter, Lucy, who is scared that Elliot, like all of Paula’s boyfriends, will dump her mother – causing yet another example of “The Goodbye Girl” syndrome. The Goodbye Girl features the same humor that has made Neil Simon the most popular playwright in Broadway history.
The film was made into a musical in 1993 starring Bernadette Peters and Martin Short on Broadway. Produced at the Marquis Theatre in New York, the production received a nomination for the 1993 Tony Award® for Best Musical, as well as a slew of other nominations: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Choreography, and Best Direction. It went on to receive three Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Actor, Music, and Lyrics.
