Michael Morgan conducts as the Oakland East Bay Symphony performs Heroes & Giants, a concert featuring works by two of the brightest figures in a generation of European musicians, whose careers were prematurely terminated by the rise of the Nazi regime: Czech composer/pianist Erwin Schulhoff and composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg. Schulhoff, who died in the Wülzburg concentration camp, was one of the first classical composers in Europe to be inspired by jazz. The orchestra presents his rarely performed Suite for Chamber Orchestra. Principal trumpeter William Harvey is the featured soloist in Weinberg's inspiring Trumpet Concerto. The orchestra will also perform Beethoven's 1804 Symphony No. 3, Eroica, one of his most technically challenging masterpieces. Learn More

Music itself was just okay, although I didn't think it was worth the travel that I had to take from the outside of the East Bay. However, Miss. Briggs performance was remarkable. I would love to see her again one day. Yet, I don't think I would like to go to the Oakland East Bay Symphony again. Also they had such a bad system for will-call that was quite a shame for the historical theater like that. There was only one line for EVERYBODY and EVERYTHING. Lastly, please do something about the females' bathroom. That was just savage.
