Wonderful evenings entertainment. GREAT musical ability by each person on stage. Of course if you know the music it's even more enjoyable....BUT, if you don't then GO! and learn what a talented person "Fats" was.
Two of the fastest hours spent "Jumpin'"

I have seen this show before and was disappointed by this presentation. I attended the opening performance and the mikeing was bad, sound dropped in and out during the first half (I left at intermission). All songs as presented sounded alike. Singers were not great although they danced quite well and I did enjoy the dancing. Could not understand half the words. I love the music of Fats Waller and this was a real disappointment. Need a Fats who both sings and plays the piano to pull the illusion off. In this production, the heavy set singer who was supposed to be the Waller character didn't even pretend to sit down at the piano and play. It just didn't come off. Of the five goldstar events that I have seen so far, this was definitely the worst.

This production is excellent in every way -music fabulous and the performers very professional. I was lucky to get a front row seat as when I arrived, someone had just turned it in. I met the cast after the performance and hope to see a couple of them again. Fabulous dancing, beautiful set. It's Monday night and am still thinking about it. Would love to go again and sit in the same seat. Enjoyed being at the Olney Theatre for the first time. Three cheers for the opportunity to get a discounted price with Goldstar.

It was wonderful, full of pep and energy and Fats Waller! All the performers were perfect in what they did. ONly one comment a little negative, I felt the orchestra, esp the pianist should have been black. and fit with the crowd. This pianist did not look like he was enjoying himself, but just playing the music perfunctorily. I think they should have had a Fats Waller type, By the way, I am not black. However, the performers were so good, they outweighed the lack of enthusiasm from the musicians.

A fun and livley evening performance.
Only negative was that the theater assigned us absolute backrow seats, when there were several closer empty seats that would have enhanced our enjoyment of the performance. This is not the first time we have received poor seats for a Goldstar event.

Front row seats allowed for good viewing of the five singers in the show. As the synopsis stated there isn't really any storyline. The show contain's a lot of Fats Waller songs and they were all done well. The piano player was awesome.

If you enjoy musical reviews then this is the show for you! Think 1920s and 1930s Harlem Renaissance. Lots of high stepping and dancing which is extremely impressive, but the vocals alone of any one of the 5 talented performers is worth the price of admission. They capture the style of performance of the period magnificently. It is like you are watching an old movie but a lot more lively. There are 33 songs (or parts of songs performed). This may seem like a lot, but under the masterful direction of Devron Young and energetic choreography of Yvette Shipley Perkins the pace is fast and the show is over before you know it. The band under the musical direction of Aaron Broderick was spectacular and worked well on stage with the performers. All the performances were outstanding, but as a huge fan of the late Nell Carter my eye went immediately to Jesaira L. Glover who bears a resemblance to Miss Carter and she played the role originated by Miss Carter. Not only did she measure up, but she completely blew me away. Miss Carter would be proud. Watch for her in the future, she is fantastic! This show is not to be missed! Congratulations to all involved!

The 5 singers in the show were very talented. Although we saw a preview and the formal opening night is not until Saturday, my party and what appeared to be the whole audience thoroughly enjoyed the singing, dancing and acting.
