Every Good Boy Deserves Favour is a rarely performed collaboration between playwright Tom Stoppard and composer André Previn. In a Soviet asylum in 1977, two men share a cell. While Ivanov is a genuine mental patient who believes he's conducting the full orchestra that appears on stage, Alexander is a political prisoner who must admit his "mental illness" to regain his freedom.

The play was excellent and very unusual. You don't expect a full orchestra on stage. The actors and musicians from Boston University were very professional. As the story unfolds it makes you realize how lucky we are to live in this country.

The play was everything you expected from two great artists. The staging was done very well. However I wasn't prepared for it to be a part of the Boston U festifal. It was a pleasant surprise, but I'd rather be more informed in the future.

Every Good Boy Deserves Favour is a collaborative piece written by the unique artistic team of Tom Stoppard and André Previn. In a Soviet asylum in 1977, two men share a cell. While Ivanov is a genuine mental patient who believes he’s conducting the full orchestra that appears on stage, Alexander is a political prisoner who must admit his “mental illness” to regain his freedom. The play is rarely performed because of its need for a full orchestra.
André Previn is an Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer and a former music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Tom Stoppard is a playwright and screenwriter best known for the movies Brazil and Shakespeare in Love and the plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Arcadia.
