Wonderful production, actors were great (especially the female lead), and the weather was perfect. To sum up, it couldn't be better.

Cal Shakes never disappoints, and neither does Goldstar. When we arrived, we were told that we had been upgraded to 1st row center, which made the experience even more engaging and enjoyable.

In the past, we've driven there (and have often had a lot of traffic), so this time, we took BART. It worked very well. I was anxious because I didn't know when the last shuttle (before the show) left the BART station, but I found out that the last one leaves at showtime, so I did not have to worry.

Make sure you get there in time for the pre-show talk. It is well worthwhile.

You have to take a bit of theater history to this production and realize that it is a rather dark, but humorous take on a life wasted on trivial pursuits and hide bound rituals. The woman is stuck in a deadend situation and remains so to the bitter conclusion. Extremely clever production of a classic that a bit of reading ahead will help appreciate all the more.

More Information About Samuel Beckett's Happy Days

Description

We are all alone in the face of death, and all alone in the face of life—how can this stark truth be funny? But in Samuel Beckett's brilliant hands it is, as you'll find out when you see Cal Shakes' production of Happy Days. Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone brings the work of the Nobel Prize-winning Beckett to the Bruns stage for the very first time with this astounding portrait of a woman buried up to her waist in sand, and in the comically painful toil of her life.
