One man's ingenious cure for shyness turns out to be a recipe for disaster -- and delight -- in Larry Shue's The Foreigner at Theatre Palisades. This Obie-winning comic farce follows Charlie, an Englishman abroad who is too shy to engage with other vacationers staying at a Georgia fishing lodge. His friend Froggy then offers a novel solution: he will tell everyone that Charlie is an exotic foreigner who can't speak a lick of English. But little did they suspect that their ruse would uncork a torrent of talk from the unsuspecting guests, who all find the "Foreigner" the perfect sounding board for their deepest secrets and most dangerous scandals. Suddenly Charlie is plunged into an adventure ... with himself as the protagonist. Learn More

I hoped for better because the show had "Tony" magic associated with it. Pacing and casting just didn't work for our group, and the solo piano probably could have used some help - a trio, perhaps?— but I think it was the basic story that didn't make that much sense. Bright spot was the woman playing Marcy Park, and Olive's lovely voice. Character Douglas Panch has the best lines.
