Gilbert and Sullivan's beloved comic musical The Pirates of Penzance tells the story of Frederic, a boy mistakenly apprenticed to a softhearted band of pirates when his hard-of-hearing nurse is told to take him to a ship's pilot. When his apprenticeship comes to its end, Frederic leaves the pirate ship and promptly falls in love with a Major-General's daughter. Just as he starts planning for his future, the pirates return to inform Frederic that since his birthday falls on leap day, he still has another 63 years of apprenticeship left before he's of age. The score features many of Gilbert and Sullivan's wittiest and most engaging tunes, including the immortal "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General." Learn More

BF bought tics to this show as a surprise outing and he ended up being pretty embarrassed that he did. The place was awfully hard to find and when we got there, we were weirded out by the venue location uphill and in the wood, but felt better when we saw a few cars driving in. But then the weird feeling came back going into the venue, which smelled of old wood. We tried to brush all that aside and hoped for the best but it just got worse. I commend the kids for acting and doing what they love; keep it up! However, this should be a free event, not something that people pay to see. I rank it as lower rated than a school recital, it was that bad and brutal to sit through. Was going to walk out in the middle of it, but looked at the playbill, which showed there was an intermission coming up so we waited til then and left. We had a good laugh, but checking the clock, we mutually felt we both lost an hour of our time (hour and a half if you include getting lost finding the place) and we felt we could have made better use of our Sunday; total waste. Honestly, I would never recommend watching this show, i may recommend it if it was free, but when my BF said he spent even $20 on it on Goldstar, I felt even that was a rip off let alone how much they would charge at regular price. I actually feel he should get his money back for going through that experience. Best wishes to the talented performers, nonetheless.
