The Commonwealth Club welcomes Adam Gopnik, longtime staff writer for The New Yorker and author of the books Paris to the Moon and The Table Comes First: Family, France, and the Meaning of Food, to the Cubberly Community Center. We are a culture obsessed with food, but how did we get to that point? Gopnik traces our table ancestry back to France and discusses its rapid evolution. With the aim of creating a new dialogue about the way we eat, Gopnik explains how food helped family and friends come together as well as why those conversations and relationships were always more important than what was actually on the table. Afterward, he'll sign copies of his books.
