I and my husband enjoyed this concert a lot! PBO's performance was Excellent and girl's hermony was just beautiful. We are not sure about narrator though... He is very good-looking and has nice voice, but seemed over performed for this concert. I wished he had not had the script in his hand.Written on Feb 09 2009
However overall, We love it!

Description

Felix Mendelssohn:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Op. 21 & 61
The Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave), Op. 26
Scherzo from the Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20
Three Motets, Op. 39

PBO celebrates Felix Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday! This concert samples music from all stages of Mendelssohn’s life; from the Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, written at age 16; to The Hebrides overture, written in the middle of his life; to his completion of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, written seventeen years after the Overture. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, conductor Nicholas Gegan has arranged Mendelssohn’s beautiful motets to feature the girls with the Orchestra. With Shakespeare – the muse of poetry – to highlight the talents of this great composer and honor this amazing group of girls, this will be a splendid affair!
