WOW! The cast was uniformly excellent and the sets beautiful. Many times opera fails to deliver an emotional punch, but this one came through from start to finish! Go see it!

we decided to see this performance based on the positive Goldstar reviews. We were not mislead. This was an inventive, exciting opera evening. We plan to return to future operas at this venue.

I had never seen The Flying Dutchman and found this performance very exciting and creative....the singers were excellent, the set changes and settings were visually beautiful with unique lighting and staging.

Was amazed..first rate singing, quality production. Only one sub-par player in orchestra. Have always assumed this would be somewhat less than professional company, but i was mistaken. Will gladly attend next year.

Saw the same opera in San Francisco a year or two ago and this one beat it, hands down. It was great and the price was right. Really made you think about the story - and for once, opera made sense.

The stage and orchestra setting is quite deceiving. It looks very small but there's basically a pit where the orchestra is that isn't visible from the audience. As for the stage, there didn't seem to be one, but then the screen goes up and there's quite an elaborate set. Very well put together.

Strong singing in an intimate venue makes West Bay Opera as good an overall experience in my opinion as SF Opera, but at a much more reasonable price.

Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman)
(in German with English titles)
Conductor: José Luis Moscovich
Director: David Ostwald
For centuries, the Flying Dutchman sails the seas, condemned to live until he can find salvation in the love of a truly faithful woman. Senta, a teenage village girl on the Norwegian coast, proves faithful to the death. This is love, betrayal, and redemption Wagner style. Der fliegende Holländer is an early work of genius, and the last of Wagner’s italianate operas.
