We loved it. This one act Opera was wonderful. The perfect Christmas story. The child star's voice was beautiful. This was the first English sung Opera I've seen, and I real enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this production.Written on Dec 20 2010

Description
Amahl and the Night Visitors is an opera in one act by Gian Carlo Menotti, starring Suzanna Guzman as the Mother, and directed by Stephanie Vlahos.
Menotti's beloved classic is an inspiring story of healing and hope, and is a musical event the entire family will enjoy.
It is the story of Amahl, a poor lame shepherd boy, who often angers his mother with his habitual lying. As the story opens, he is telling her about a great star he has seen in the night sky. Later she is again angered when he informs her that three kings have come to visit them. When three kings actually enter bearing lavish gifts for a child they are seeking, she welcomes them and has Amahl gather the neighbors to entertain them. Later that night, Amahl's mother tries to steal some of the kings' gold, hoping it will help her son. She is caught, but the kings kindly offer to let her keep the gold, for the child they seek has no need of earthly riches. She is told of the light the child will bring to the world. Moved, the mother returns the gold, and Amahl offers his crutch as an additional gift for the child. Miraculously, he finds he can walk and so leaves with the kings to pay homage to the newborn king.
