L.A.'s acclaimed home of the classics, A Noise Within, stages Tartuffe, one of Moliere's best loved -- and most clever -- comedies. Few scoundrels are as roguish, charming or hilarious as the titular Tartuffe, an impostor who insinuates himself into the home of Orgon and his family, quickly throwing the entire household into chaos. As Orgon's infatuation with his guest and his phony piety grows, Tartuffe's deception threatens to turn downright damaging. This translation of the 1669 original retains all of its witty relevance, and was written by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and U.S. Poet Laureate Richard Wilbur in 1963. Learn More

Congratulations to the theatre for performing Shakespeare plays. However, this performance was less than satisfactory. In the first half of the play both Anthony and Cleopatra were portrayed as total caricatures. The overall acustics were terrible caused by the U-shape of the theatre and the poor enunciation of the Shakespearean language. The patrons next to me complained that they had not been able to follow the plot in the previous Shakespeare play at this theatre, nor did they catch more than half of the lines now. I had the same problem. The costume were unfortunate and the fighting scenes should be rethought. Overall, it was disappointing. G.H.
