Formed by Eric Davidson (banjo), Caleb Finch (fiddle) and others in New York during the early 1960's, Iron Mountain String Band recreates the sound of old time Appalachian mountain music. During the late 60's, Peggy Haine was its guitar player and the ballad singer for the band, and now Brooke Moyer is the third member of the band.
As was typical of string bands before the 1930's, the Iron Mountain String Band's lineup includes only banjo, fiddle and guitar. Instruments such as mandolin and dobro were introduced later to string band music, with the development of bluegrass style music. Today the band is based in Southern California, where they regularly perform live and on the air."
