A wonderful evening from the writer of "Tea at Five", which I also much enjoyed at the Playhouse. "Looped" is hilarious! It's also a very sensitive and thought-provoking evening. Harper inhabits Tallulah (or is it vice-versa?) like a storm, and Chad Allen is perfect. Time well spent with a brilliant has-been and the gentleman she provokes, enrages and eventually enlightens. See this show!

Set in a recording studio, this is a picture of a great celebrity at the end or her career. Valerie Harper and Chad Allen hold the stage for two hours and. anyone who remembers Tallulah Bankhead will get lost in the performance and come to imagine that you are really watching her.
It is a camp evening and well worth seeing.

More Information About Looped

Description

Looped is loosely based on the true story of Tallulah Bankhead (Valerie Harper), the original celebrity bad girl, who was called into a sound studio to rerecord (“or loop”) one line from her final film "Die, Die, My Darling." The session was to have only taken five minutes, but instead lasted well over eight hours. Southern, but by no means a belle, Bankhead was known for her wild partying that outshined even today’s superstars, including innumerable affairs with male and female celebrities and outlandish exploits that were even investigated by the British secret service. Relish in the promiscuity, scandal and outrageous wit of this sultry-voiced stage and film star.

A new play by Matthew Lombardo (Tea at Five)
Directed by Rob Ruggiero (Make Me A Song: The Music of William Finn; Ella)

Four-time Emmy Award-winner Valerie Harper achieved fame as Rhoda Morgenstern on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and the spin-off series "Rhoda." In 1987, she was seen as Valerie Hogan in the then-titled NBC series "Valerie" (later "The Hogan Family") and also starred in the 1990 CBS series "City" and in the 1994 CBS series "The Office." She has appeared as a guest star on various television series. Throughout her career, Harper has continued to work in the theatre. She performed with various companies of Second City and Story Theatre in many venues all over the country and in Canada. Harper was a member of the original stage production of Story Theater in Los Angeles at the Mark Taper Forum and opened with the show in New York when it moved to Broadway. She played Los Angeles' James Doolittle Theatre and later toured in Dear Liar with Anthony Zerbe; toured with Zev Bufman's production of Agnes of God, playing The Psychiatrist; and starred in the New York production of Death Defying Acts by Elaine May and Woody Allen. In 2001, Harper was back on Broadway starring in Charles Busch's hilarious comedy The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. Having completed her cross-country tour of Golda's Balcony, Harper is continuing as Golda Meir for the film version of William Gibson's play.

Chad Allen began his acting career working on a succession of popular television series including "St. Elsewhere," "Our House," "My Two Dads" and "Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman." He appeared in the L.A. production of Change at Babylon and Temporary Help in Westport, CT; Seattle; and “Off-Broadway” at the Revelation Theatre. He produced and starred in the L.A. premiere of Terence McNally's Corpus Christi. Most recently, he starred in Little Dog Laughed at TheaterWorks in Hartford, CT.
