Members Who Went Said:The Pasadena Jazz Institute on Paseo Colorado is truly a wonderful place to spend an evening. Many jazz clubs have a two-drink minimum, but this place does not. You are welcome to pay the affordable cover fee (which I did not because the tickets were free through Goldstar) and spend the entire evening sitting in the mood-lit main room, relaxing in the comfy lounge, playing pool in the game room, or even going out to the patio for a breath of fresh air, or even a cigar. The great live music can be heard in every room of the beautiful club. The Jazz Institute is not a full restaurant, but they do serve scrumptious appetizers and have two full bars. The club is not 21 and over; anyone is welcome to come enjoy the jazz. In fact, on weeknights there is not live music because they hold jazz classes for kids. It is clear that their mission is to provide a beautiful place for jazz to be enjoyed in the city, not to empty your pockets on a friday night. The Pasadena Jazz Institute on Paseo Colorado is a very classy alternative to the noisy dance club scene, and I can't wait to bring all my friends back.
Jeff N. The place, which had just opened in January, reminded me of clubs in San Francisco and Chicago. It is not the snobbish type of hangouts that you usually find in Los Angeles. And there was no drink minimum, so I didn't feel any pressure to pay (even though I had a few drinks anyway). I simply enjoyed the show.
Shahin Ourian Havin' fun at awesome events, and lovin' every minute of it! :) The band was talented, funny, and energetic. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to head back to the Pasadena Jazz Institute again! A must see for everyone! |

Singing classic jazz standards fueled by raw emotion and an innovative style, Rachel Lauren is an artist who will not only delight your ear, but revive your spirit. With the release of her first album away from the crowd, she has succeeded in stepping away from the anonymity of the larger music scene and into a spotlight of her very own. As a vocal stylist, Rachel Lauren pays homage to the music that created jazz, flavoring it with original emotional expression. “Its not about how many notes or beats you have,” she says, “If you have people feeling something, feeling what you are feeling, that is what jazz is about.” She infuses this mantra into jazz standards, reviving vintage tunes with an emotional interpretation of her own. Saturday, August 16th, Chuchito Valdez In Concert Jesus "Chuchito" Valdés following in the footsteps of his famed father Chucho Valdés and grandfather Bebo Valdés, continues the legacy of great piano players from Cuba. His influences of Afro Cuban rhythms and jazz creates an exciting and energetic blend of spicy music that drives audiences wild.
