Awesome... too bad it ended so soon! Should move up the ladder to larger venues..If you trusted the Star News critique, you missed a great opportunity. I find them particularly harsh on ethnic productions.Written on Sep 23 2008

<p>MATTER OF HONOR
By Michael J. Chepiga
Directed by Scott Schwartz
Duty. Honor. Country.
- The West Point Motto
For over 200 years, West Point has graduated the most important military leaders in American history. Ulysses S. Grant, Dwight Eisenhower, Douglas Macarthur and Norman Schwarzkopf are but a few these celebrated alumni. One cadet was denied the opportunity for reasons having nothing to do with his military potential.
In 1880, Cadet Johnson Whittaker should have been the second African-American man to graduate from West Point. Some say he was phased out because of his race - others say that he simply was not up to snuff.
Broadway playwright Michael J. Chepiga turns his pen to keen and dramatic effect in this moving story of a cadet's struggle for truth, honor and redemption.
RAY CHARLES LIVE! - A New Musical
Book by Suzan-Lori Parks
Directed by Sheldon Epps
Ray Charles touched perhaps more bases than any other performer in American musical history, mastering everything from rhythm and blues, to gospel, to jazz, to country music and pop-delivering them all with equal expertise. RAY CHARLES LIVE - A New Musical will bring to the stage this incredible variety of musical styles capturing the energy, the hard driving musicality, and the excitement and electricity of Charles live onstage. Beyond that it will examine the emotional forces which shaped the man who made the music, and depicts his struggles and challenges, the fascinating people in his life, as well as his incredible triumphs and his joy. As he forces himself to dig deeper and deeper over the course of this momentous recording session, it will allow us to reveal not just his story, but the true soul of the man whose life and music actually helped to define soul.
Featuring many of Charles’ hits including: “Georgia on My Mind,” “What’d I Say,” “Mess Around,” “Hit The Road, Jack,” “Unchain My Heart,” “I Got a Woman” and “Hallelujah, I Love Her So.”
ORSON’S SHADOW
By Austin Pendleton
An ingenious tale of two Hollywood giants – Orson Welles and Laurence Olivier. The time is 1960; the place is a West End theatre. Legendary critic Kenneth Tynan has made a startling proposal: Welles should direct Olivier and the young Joan Plowright in Rhinoceros, Ionesco’s absurdist masterpiece. But it is the rehearsal process that brims with absurdity as titanic personalities, including Vivien Leigh, wrestle the muse. Based on an actual event, Orson’s Shadow is a witty and incisive depiction of the drama of theatre.
