Pasadena Playhouse is a very nice venue, and I quite enjoyed "Stormy Weather". Horne's fascinating life story was well told. Leslie Uggams as Lena, and Nikki Crawford as the "Young Lena" were great vocally (and I easily overlooked their unspectacular acting performances). Acting prize definitely goes to Dee Hoty who was refreshingly fabulous as Kay Thompson. Kudos to the set designer too!Written on Feb 02 2009

Being a big Lena Horne fan, I knew I was going to really like this event. After the first 5 minutes of the production, I knew I was going to love this show. I thought it was going to be Leslie performing in concert as Lena, but it was much more than that. It told the entire life story of Lena up to her famous one woman show. Run and see this show. If you are a fan of Lena you will fall out of your seat when Honey Suckle Rose is performed! The Goldstar seats were very good!Written on Jan 26 2009

With glamour, grace and an inner fire that blazed a trail for generations, the legendary Lena Horne has never failed to amaze! Taking both Hollywood and the music industry by storm, her voice has resonated throughout the decades, not only through her incredible vocal talent ("From This Moment On," "The Lady is a Tramp" and of course "Stormy Weather"), but also through her determination to fight for what she believed. Filled with scams and double-crosses, two half-sisters vie for the rights to a recently inherited (and dazzlingly valuable) stamp collection. Throughout their farcical escapades, the pair come face-to-face with a couple of machine-gun mouthed con artists who ensnare them in their own brand of beguiling trickery.
The Little Foxes
By Lillian Hellman
Directed by Dámaso Rodriguez
Greed knows no time or place is an adage that holds true in 2009 as much as it did in 1939. Hellman masterfully crafts a tale of family politics and corporate greed that is at once dizzyingly deceptive while being devilishly fun. The Hubbards can only be described as ravenous - a family with an uncanny ability to manipulate each other in ways that rival the mega-corporations of today. Discover the lengths the family will go to for success.
