The Pasadena Playhouse presents the premiere of a new musical comedy, South Street, with music and lyrics by Richard Addrisi (whose "Never My Love" is BMI's number two "Song of the Century") and book by Craig Carlisle (author of Ovation-nominated Bob Funk). The musical centers around Philadelphia club Sammy's Place, a hangout that evolved from an old firehouse to a strip club to the location of the annual Full Moon Festival. This neighborhood staple where locals gather night after night comes to a crossroads when its ownership is threatened. Audiences will be drawn in along with Sammy's patrons to this song-and-dance filled evening that captures the universal magic of the local neighborhood watering hole.

AS MUCH AS I WANT TO SUPPORT THE EFFORT, THE PLAYHOUSE ETC.. AND AS MUCH AS I HATE TO SAY IT... THIS WAS SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING WHAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN!! THE STORY/ BOOK WAS SO WEAK AND CORNBALL. WE DIDN'T HATE IT... IT JUST DIDN'T DELIVER AND I JUST DON'T KNOW WHERE THE COMEDY WAS IN THE "MUSICAL COMEDY". THERE WERE SOME MOMENTS THAT STOOD OUT BUT MAYBE BECAUSE THE REST WAS SO SO. BETTER THAN SITTING HOME WATCHING TV.. BUT UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF TIME AND MONEY.... YOUR TIME & DOLLARS MIGHT BE BEST SPENT ELSEWHERE IF PUSH CAME TO SHOVE. SO SORRY TO BE NEGATIVE...... I'VE SEEN FAR WORSE BUT WE DROVE FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR TO SEE THIS PLAY WITH THE COST OF GAS THESE DAYS......

2nd act was better than the first. Story line and the lyrics was a bit on the corny side.

I would not recommend this show to anyone...it was very boring and the concept was not interesting at all. Regardless of this, I have to say that there were a lot of very talented people with wonderful voices trying their best to entertain the audience.
