I felt the performances were uneven and lacked committment. Viola was a delight and believable, but many others were over the top or just reciting lines. This is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays and should be light and filled with fun, but I felt the comedy was ponderous and spiteful rather than prankish.
The staging was intriguing. I found myself more interested in the changing of the sets than the story. I don't think it's supposed to be that way.
One the other hand, I'm glad to see A Noise Within in their new home. They've worked hard to get there.
A Noise Within christens its new and permanent Pasadena home with one of the Bard's most beloved comedies. Set in Cuba by director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, this uproarious bacchanal will sizzle with a decidedly hot, Latin breeze, as plucky Viola, incorrigible Sir Tony Belch and a parade of unforgettable characters burn the midnight oil on a quest for belly-laughs, delicious revenge, and true love's calling.
