Like all great ideas, Monique Marvez’ comedy career was born out of an honest need and a personal revelation. While lying in bed recovering from a stress related cold, she happened upon a picture of Sam Kinison leaving a sold out concert with two bodacious blondes on his arm. Figuring it was time to put the straightforward attitude that got her smacked, divorced and fired (no stress here…) to good use she called the local comedy club to secure an open mic spot and the rest, as they say, is history.
Her material was a perfect chance to recycle the challenges of a childhood that included her parents being multiple marriers who moved constantly, and make use of the unique skill sets she developed as a result. With an hourglass figure and a stopwatch wit, Monique has a knack for making powerful first impressions; this coupled with the ability to maintain audiences thoroughly entertained while perfectly balanced on the high wire between Ha ha! And Ah Ha! kept her in demand and on the rise!
Through out her upward trajectory, Monique has been blessed with the powerful endorsements. Barry Diller picked her to be the face and late night host of his Miami television venture WAMI and this resulted in two TV specials: Monique Over Miami and Lady Zings the Blues. Eva Longoria chose her to be one of the original members of the comedy troupe The Hot Tamales Live, and she hosted segments of Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve from South Beach during millennium coverage!
Straight off of a stage in LA, Dick Wolf Productions/ NBC Universal gave her the opportunity to develop a sitcom about her rollercoaster love life, His(terical)panic family and two flawlessly flawed BFF’s. Although a pilot was not in the cards, this phenomenal creative endeavor lead to perfecting the material later used in her Alma Award nominated Showtime special, _Latin Divas of Comedy. _
While continuing to working on a solid TV presence, the fates smiled on Marvez yet again and drive time radio beckoned, first in Indianapolis at WENS, the flagship station for EMMIS Communications and then in Southern California after she won the “Million Dollar Morning Show Contest” conducted by San Diego’s JackFM. She is also in heavy rotation on several of Sirius/XM comedy channels. Recently, she shot twoShowtime Specials that should air in early 2012: Snoop Dogg Presents the Bad Girls of Comedy and her own hour_ Not Skinny, Not Blonde._
