This was our first time at this theatre, it was intimate and we have great seats. I wasn't sure how they were going to pull this play off without the male characters and taking place only in a beauty salon, but they did a great job. Nice set, good performances, I especially liked Shelby's mom she looked and acted very similar to Sally Fields. The play brought me to laughter and tears even though I've seen the movie several times and knew what was going to happen. That says a lot about the performances. The other couple we went with also enjoyed this play.Written on Dec 06 2010

It was my first time going to the Point Loma Assembly which was a warm cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff volunteers. The stage area reminded me of an early 19th century grange hall. The beauty parlor set was well done. The characters in the play lacked the temperment of "Steel Magnolias". The Anelle character was the best. Unfortunately the central figure the daughter seemed to produce no sentiment when she passed away as she came across as a bratty character. Ouzer did her best although she jumped in and out of charcter at the end. By the end it just seemed to run out of gas.Written on Nov 30 2010

Description
The quintessential story of friendship and trust, Steel Magnolias serves up a southern slice of life that's as warm and comforting as sweet potato pie! In the world of Truvy's local-homegrown beauty salon, six very different women come together to share their secrets, fears and love for one another while engaging the audience in hysterical and neighborly gossip. From weddings to divorces, babies to funerals, new beginnings to happy endings, they share each moment in their lives with grace, determination, and perfectly coiffed hair. When tragedy strikes, it is in the familiar comfort of Truvy's salon where they seek the solace and support that carries them through. Directed by David Sein and featuring Shelley Benoit as Truvy, Yolanda Franklin as Annelle, Jill Costanzo as M'Lynn, Dawn Newbegin as Shelby, Elouise Potomac as Ouiser and C Taylor as Clairee.
